A few weeks ago on instagram, I mentioned that I’d been using a stellar combination of products in the morning that have made my skin absolutely it’s best. While I was admittedly a little resistant to change – it’s a bit scary at first for me to switch it up, especially in the morning – I had been sent some new products a few months ago to start trying and I have absolutely fallen in love with some of them! My complexion has really cleared up and my skin is waaaay better. One of the most important products included in this daily line up is the Born Skincare Pure Foaming Cleanser!
I’ve raved about Born Skincare before (in this post). I’m a super loyal Born lover. The Founder, Gloria is one of the most genuine women in the industry and her muscle oil has truly helped my chronic pain. I start each and every morning with my Born Skincare Pure Cleanser. I LOVE how you don’t need water to use it at all! I just adore how one small pump is enough to clean your whole face and it foams immediately – something totally unique in the green beauty world! Pure is a gentle, effective cleanser that helps to remove makeup, clean dirt or in the case of my morning’s – cuddly dog’s hair. It serves well as a base cleanser before doing an oil cleanse because it gets everything off in one foul swoop. It’s the closest thing to a “conventional cleanser” that I have ever used! It leaves skin soft, clean, clear and fresh with a natural scent.
Raels is a dog’s dog. She’ll fetch every ball, jump in every mud puddle and roll around in every fresh cut lawn. She’ll jump into any ocean. I take her out every single morning for a ball catch session and a run, and believe me – she hardly ever comes back house-ready.
However, Raels has really, really sensitive skin. Especially in the springtime, just laying in the grass for long enough will give baby a little rash on her belly. I have to be really careful about over-washing her, especially on her delicate face where her skin is the most soft. This may sound crazy, but the thing I love most about green beauty is how multi-purpose it is! I’ve also been using Pure on Raelie to give her a gentle face wash during her many weekly baths (there I am above^^ about to lovingly attack her face with it). She loves it and it leaves her skin way more clean than some super stinky conventional (natural of course!) dog washes that I have. Many of them are very heavily fragranced which tends to turn me off since I am very sensitive to smells. We all go through it. Periods of dull, dry, complicated skin. Sometimes it’s after a night of partying, other times a small sign of self-neglect, and other times we’re just stressed, busy or broke. Radiance is something we all seek. Your complexion is radiant when it’s smooth and bright enough to reflect light. We all want to be able to achieve (and keep) a healthy color, as well as the beautiful, youthful skin we know we deserve. How can we combat dullness and achieve our best color and complexion all year round? The answers are simple, and provided by nature!
Supplements
Supplements are my favorite, fool-proof way to achieve healthy, glowing skin. If you’re frustrated with dull, dry or even acneic skin, supplements could be your answer!
Some of my favorite supplements for a lovely complexion are:
Biotin – An essential B vitamin, biotin is great for digestion, skin, hair and nails.
Iron – to combat anemia. Iron is used for tackling dryness and pale skin. It adds a natural glow.
Omega’s – Omega’s are perfect for wrinkle prevention. Omegas organically create supple, smooth skin.
A zinc orotate powder may be a good supplement to buy because it also helps promote healthy skin as well as support immune function and promote a healthier mood. It’s more of an all-round supplement so well worth looking into.
Try to get a lot of greens in your diet too. Salads and smoothies are a great way to do this!
Plenty of Water
Drinking the recommended 8-10 glasses of water a day can be hard, so try adding some berries, fruit, lemon or even some essential oils into your water!
I adore Belly Bliss by Well Scent. Well Scent makes 100% Organic and Wild-Harvested Blend for Digestion, Liver + Gut Support. I take this in the morning every day with hot water + cayenne pepper and lemon. It’s very refreshing, calming and soothes my tummy.

Sunshine

It’s June. So you no longer have any excuse. Get outside! Soak up the sunshine! Add some Vitamin D into your supplement routine on days where the sun is being super stubborn (like it has been in San Diego recently! Jeez!) Try to get 10-15 minutes of sunshine every day. This helps our skin naturally, as an anti-cancer, mood stabilizer, decreasing asthma, and supporting the immune system. And it gives us a killer glow!
Get Your Glow On
Using a luminizer with my makeup is my favorite way to get a glow naturally! I proudly collaborate with Delizioso Skincare to provide an organic, natural glow crème luminzer. With bases of organic olive oil, prickly pear seed oil, argan oil, and natural mica, it will brighten your complexion as well as add a youthful glow. If you’re not-so-vegan, RMS Beauty also makes an amazing luminizer. There’s also the beautiful Dolce highlighter by Alima Pure.
No matter how you go about it, adding a natural shimmer to the face around the tops of the cheekbones and around the eyes can instantly create a brighter, younger, more supple look to the skin.
Tips: Use a cream luminizer for a young, fresh look. Use a powder highlighter for a matte shimmer. Both pair beautifully with any choice of makeup!
Avoid Caffeine
DIY All Natural Relaxation Tea
If you’ve done all the above and are still experiencing a dull or unusually pale complexion, you may want to consider coming off of America’s most accepted drug: caffeine. Caffeine is super hard for our body to process. It can congest your liver, which causes liver spots. Caffeine blocks your liver from filtering out very important toxins. It’s also incredibly dehydrating for your entire body. In fact, coffee is a natural diuretic. Caffeine also increases heart rate, often mimicking symptoms of anxiety!

Toning remains one of my favorite beauty rituals, and it’s one of my best kept secrets to achieving glowing skin.
To get the results you want from your toner, you’ve got to know how to use it properly. Here are some natural, organic, cruelty free toners to get you started on your green journey to better skin!
Biodara Immortal Mist
Biodara’s Immortal Mist is named for it’s main compotent, helichrysum. Helichrysum is also known as the “Immortal plant” for it’s ability to regenerate and promote skin growth, as well as reduce inflammation. Helichrysum is one of my favorite healing oils, as it works wonders on my sensitive skin! This particular product also smells amazing! The exquisite Immortal Mist from Biodara is also made with bases of 100% organic aloe juice (my favorite!), rose absolute, organic grapefruit and rose geranium oil. It doesn’t get any more luxe than this mist! I spray it on in the morning, before bed and after I go surfing. It’s constantly traveling with me in my purse and has it’s own little place on my vanity.
Rose Toner
With key ingredients of organic rose, apple, goji berry, gotu kola, bilberry leaf and an organic aloe base, I am head over heels in love with this toner! It instantly revitalizes without smelling harsh, it tones my skin immediately, and even helps to clear up stubborn acne! A must-have for anyone with sensitive or breakout-prone skin.
Witch Hazel
Witch hazel has been popular for a long time, and for many more uses than simply to clarify skin and shrink pores. It also fades redness and blemishes, brightens around the eyes, and is great for applying post-shaving for it’s anti-inflammatory benefits. I use this on my face when I’m combatting a particularly stubborn blemish, and also on my legs after shaving. You can also gargle with this if you feel a sore throat coming on! I love the light, refreshing scent.
Josh Rosebrook Hydrating Accelerator
If you aren’t aware of how much I love Josh Rosebrook, then we’re probably not friends on instagram (that’s ok! We can change that immediately. 😉 ) Josh’s Hydrating Accelerator is one of the things Josh gifted to me when we first met one another. Now that he’s one of my best friends, I can – without any guilt what so ever – emphatically recommend this incredible toner to all my friends and family. But the hydrating accelerator isn’t just a toner!
This product is aloe based and smells delicious (hint of marshmallow) and feels like such a treat every time I get to use it. I never used toner consistently until I found this incredible formula! It feels so refreshing and has an instant plumping, hydrating affect as well as a moisturizing affect that I have never found in a toner before this! I have five bottles of this around my house, but I’ve only run out one or two times in these last few years! Siddha Cell Salt + Flower Essences Youthful Skin
Gosh, I love flower essences, and Siddha is one of my favorite companies that makes safe, alcohol free, extremely potent flower essences for everyone. From your pets to those with muscle soreness to anyone who wants an emotional detox, they’ve got you covered. I adore Siddha’s Youthful Skin formula for toning, brightness and clearing my complex skin.
This formula not only purges toxins, it encourages blood flow, and even regulates hormones! How? Well, this amazing concoction contains incredibly potent herbs that target the causes of aging skin, as well as amazing bases of distilled water, cacao, aloe (are you noticing a trend?), dandelion, jojoba, horsetail, and sycamore. “ Jardin De Fleurs” means “garden of flowers”. This incredible formulation is technically a hydrosol. Commonly called floral waters, hydrosols are less concentrated and more mellow than essential oils, but they still possess the healing and aromatic properties of aromatherapy. Raw coconut water, jasmine flower, rose, and honeysuckle envelope the senses with just one spray. I love this amazing formula from LBF because it smells absolutely amazing, and it’s jasmine/rose base is incredible for my skin! It also works great as a refresher anywhere on your body, or spritz a few times in your hair for LBF’s signature aroma to follow you around the room. Just wait for the compliments. 🙂
Balanced Guru Organic Purifying Citrus Toner
This toner is for the citrus lovers out there! Citrus and lemon happen to be one of my favorite, most calming scents. Balanced Guru has created an insane toner with subtle floral aromas, a hint of verbena, extracts of witch hazel, nettle, tea tree and eucalyptus, I can’t get enough! This is an amazing toner that makes one feel vibrant and rejuvenated. Thyme, chamomile and arnica prevent bacterial infections, maintain supple skin and even help anxiety, fatigue and depression. Face oil. Seems kinda counter-intuitive right? Believe it or not, face oils have been around for centuries. They contain essential fatty acids, which are crucial in keeping skin young, supple and smooth.

This oil is so good it got a huge mention in my first book! Marula oil is my standard for golden-looking skin, and this formula from African Botanicals does not disappoint. I prefer Marula oil to a lot of other oils out there because my skin just drinks it up. It covers all my bases: it’s hydrating, skin clearing, and evens my skin tone, as well as brings out just the right freckles in the sun. The smell is addicting but subtle because it is Neroli-based, which also makes it extremely anti-oxidizing. Totally pure, no preservatives, and no nonsense. Marula oil is wonderful for all skin types, and great for under the eyes, dark circles or to combat redness. This oil does not leave my bedside – I apply it every night without question, waking up to supple, sexy, sun-kissed skin, even during winter months when my skin tends to get dull and dry.

I love everything from them I have ever tried – including this over-the-top hard working but super afforable gluten free concentrate. It also contains rose oil, lemon-myrtle and vitamin E for the added skin benefits. I apply this before and after long hikes or surf sessions and if my skin is especially dehydrated. It’s amazing for travel because of it’s convenient size, and the scent lingers and is totally addicting! A little goes a long, long way. I use just a few drops to cover my whole face and neck.
Tamanu Oil
Tamanu has the unique ability to promote the growth of new tissue. It’s been used for centuries on everything from troubled skin to sores, shingles, fibrosis, burns, eczema – you name it! Oil of tamanu contains three basic classes of lipids: neutral lipids, glycolipids, and phospholipids. The oil also contains a unique fatty acid called calophyllic acid, and a novel antibiotic lactone and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent called calophyllolide. These and other components of tamanu oil, including anti-inflammatory coumarins, account for some of the oil’s beneficial activity. This amazing oil has been incredible for my skin on acne, acne scars, psoriasis, and wrinkles. It accelerates wound healing, skin growth and overall it just plain makes skin look super plump and younger. It prevents up to 85% of cell damage as well, so applying Tamanu oil before I go out in the sun is a must for me!
