There’s nights in Hollywood… and then there’s Oscar week nights in Hollywood.

I was absolutely thrilled to be asked to attend the 12th Annual Global Green Pre-Oscar Party in Hollywood with Lux & Eco. The Founder of Lux & Eco, Jacquelyn and I, have been friends for over ten years now! We met in New York when I was 17 – a senior in high school – so it’s amazing to see how similar our paths have grown since! Lux & Eco is a cultured, curated store for all things eco-luxury. They truly provide the finest in conscious living. The epitome of eco-loveliness.

This was my first ever Pre-Oscar party! Global Green hosted at The Avalon, one of the most beautiful hotels and party spaces in Los Angeles. After greeting Jacquelyn and meeting the Lux & Eco team, I was lead to the super generous Lux & Eco gift bag, which contained some of my absolute favorite brands (+ some new green top-lister’s!)

I was inspired. Inspired means in-spirit, and the night was so absolutely spirited! There were so many different kinds of people – from major celebrities to bloggers, VC’s and small business owners – all in one room, discussing one thing: how to make the World a better place! My kind of party!

I had driven a Chevy Volt from San Diego to Hollywood for the party, so I was SO excited to see them unveil the new Volt, which is beautiful! I want it I want it I want it! 🙂

The night concluded with an awesome performance by Common. What a beautiful time! I’ve been enjoying my Lux & Eco goodies – from purusing the latest Coco Eco Mag to using the new cleanser on the tub today before my bath! Click here for all the brands involved in the night! I had such a blast!

I hope you all enjoyed the Oscars last night. I especially loved Lady Gaga’s performance! I’m a musical theatre girl at heart, and The Sound of Music was the first play I was ever in. Brigita for life! 😉
A big, loving, humble thank you Global Green for the invite & Lux & Eco for all that you do for the eco-community.
With love,
Tara

New York City. The city I was born and grew up in for my whole life until just a few years ago! It will always have a special place in my heart. Heck, even after I moved to LA, I was traveling to NYC just about every 4-6 weeks for the next 3 years! I’d call that homesickness. And can you blame me? New York City is bustling and beautiful. The history, the culture, the people, and the fact that I knew every shortcut, back alley and subway route like the back of my hand didn’t hurt either. They say, if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere.
I barely made it there. Between paying $1,000/month to live in places you could barely call closets, to upping my meds every single Winter because of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and it’s super-annoying side effects, like lethargy, melancholy, and just plain having your epic plans constantly fall through. No, I spent a lot of time dreaming of the sunshine coast, chasing sunbeams for the 15 minutes a day they’d peek through the clouds on grey NYC days, waiting for the days when my plans didn’t quite have to be made around the weather.
In the interim between finding my house in LA and moving from New York, I had to face a few awkward months and “make it work”. So, how can you make it work, even if you’re sad, disappointed, lonely, shut in, or just plain feeling down this Winter?
Eat Wisely
Many of us turn to food for comfort during winter months, and end up packing on the pounds out of boredom, discontent or lack of awareness about what we’re consuming. You’re going to eat more naturally during months when you’re cold, so do it wisely. Eat foods that boost your mood and get you motivated. This means: avoid carbs, sugar, and caffeine! Try nuts, fruit, honey, teas and tinctures for upping your Serotonin and feeling motivated even on crappy days. Protein (like salmon) should be eaten 3 times a week, with four cups of bright colored veggies (like peppers or kale) are optimal for health.
Move
Lethargy always kicks in for me when I feel trapped and stagnant. Movement is the cure for this. Even if the snow is piled up, doing something as simple as breaking out your yoga mat or going up and down your stairs a few dozen times gets your blood moving, and improves your cardiac and adrenal health! This helps you to combat stress, anxiety and depression as well.
Herbs
The more herbs during winter months – the better! As long as they’re the right ones! Supplements like 5-HTP and St. John’s Wort can have a make it or break it affect on our moods! These are often the difference between me being in a foul mood and days when things seem more manageable.
Light
Surrounding yourself with as much natural light as possible is a great way to combat sadness or depression during the winter months. My favorite way to do this is candles – lots and lots of candles! Soy candles and beeswax are my favorite, like this one from Delizioso Skincare. Another favorite are himalayan salt lamps, which are purifying and calming.
Remember, it’s your life! It’s where dreams are made of: there’s nothing you can’t do. 🙂

I’m a big music lover. As a musician, the 60’s and 70’s really hit a strong chord for me. The music, the clothes, the vibes, the decades are timeless, beautiful, and always seemed just a little beyond my grasp. And the legendary, soulful and free spirited Janis Joplin has always been a huge inspiration to me.
I was over the moon when I found out I was shooting for Made For Pearl.

The electrifying and brilliant path Janis tore into history was cut tragically short well before her niece, Malyn Joplin, was ever born. Malyn was only privy to family stories and strangers’ accounts of her aunt’s colorful yet turbulent life. Growing up, Malyn was tormented by an insatiable curiosity surrounding Janis, matched by an internal resentment of having never met her in person. In search of a deeper connection to her aunt, Malyn launched Made for Pearl as a creative vehicle on her road to discovery. Each season, Malyn and the team at Made for Pearl source style inspiration from photographs, personal letters, and family stories that capture the passionate, untamed yet brave spirit of Janis. Every silhouette, fabric and detail aims to rebuild an authentic image of Janis through a modern, updated homage to her iconic style.
Made for Pearl’s inspired-by pieces are produced with top-quality materials, lovingly made in the USA. They’re designed not for the prevailing winds of a given season, but for the unchanging sensibility and aesthetic of fashion forward customers that are as constant as Janis Joplin’s unforgettable voice. Made for Pearl designs capture the attention of fans everywhere, as well as inspire a new generation each season to discover the unmatched spirit and soul of Pearl.
The shoot was so fun! We pumped out Janis Joplin Pandora and properly rocked out while we got ready, then ran around town trying too hard not to smile at all the complimentary whistles and whispers. If you’re truly trying to stand out with a bohemian, timeless style, Made for Pearl is the perfect brand for you. 🙂

When The Great Beyond reached out to me on instagram, I was totally thrilled. Bamboo clothing is the ultimate in luxury and style, comfort and eco-pride, and The Great Beyond does it right.

It’s crazy to think that around this time a year ago I was freezing my bum off in New York City. In fact, every single Winter of my life has been spent at least partially on the east coast until this one. What a difference a year can make!
Keeping up with the summer vibes theme, this week was full of summer weather. I worked with an absolute dream team – everyone was amazing, from the incredible photographer to the hysterical hair and makeup artists, shooting for Solid & Striped and Gypsan this past week was a dream come true. The day was absolutely perfect, and I loved traipsing around town in this breezy, gorgeous Vagabond kimono and beautiful blue chloe top. The whole outfit was gypsy heaven: from Solid & Striped’s incredibly luxurious European and Japanese fabrics, to Gypsan’s gorgeous, free-spirited prints and fabrics. Gypsan also donates 5% of their profits every year to Big Brothers/Big Sisters, an incredible charity that mentors children.
