Who says natural makeup can’t be glamorous?

…. Oh. Okay.

Well, Abe’s opinions aside, I’m here to prove  the myth’s wrong! The truth is, I’ve even heard green makeup artist’s sheepishly confess – during public tutorials!- that “natural makeup just doesn’t work as well as conventional makeup…”

I refuse to accept that.

This look got a lot of love on instagram (you guys are seriously too nice!) so I thought I’d share it here.  I used many of my favorite brands.  Some are new discoveries, some have been in my makeup bag for years.  However, some of these tricks are new.  So as you read along, share with me if you find something you do that’s easier!  After years working as a model (having other people decide what goes on my face) I am really just getting into having control over what I am choosing to put on my skin and having fun doing my own makeup.  I am always down to learn more!

prep1

To get the best skin for this look, you’ll have to prep your skin properly. Here are my favorite ways to get a beautiful, smooth base for your makeup totally naturally!

SOFT SKIN | To prepare for an amazing result, I strap on my Good Skin Bracelet.  This bracelet is made with gemstones that attract good, healthy skin.  I apply May’s incredible charcoal based Problem Solver face mask and let myself indulge for 10-15 minutes.  Lindstrom’s problem solver does just that, going to work refreshing, clearing skin and setting the stage for a great canvas to work with!

A bit of warm water and a wash cloth later, I then drench my clean, clear skin in Lina Hanson’s Global Face Serum.  I also inhale this from my palms after application for a little aromatherapy.  After Lina’s serum sets, I apply Mun’s brightening serum to my face and décolletage for an extra glow before starting my foundation.  It also helps to set my makeup after it’s applied.

MOISTURIZE | I begin with applying Waxelene all over my lips to condition and moisturize them.  Waxelene is a great alternative to Vaseline if you are searching for a petroleum-free option.  I mean, who wants to put crude oil on their skin?  Ew.

SCENT & COLOR | I also use Osmia Organics honey myrrh lip repair for a slight, organic scent.  It’s perfect for creating a slick, plump, lush look.  To top it off, I apply Nudus Australia’s lipstick in Halo.  This awesome organic formula is totally safe and goes on a very beautiful, light pink.  Can be worn sheer for a natural look or more pigmented for a sexy, demure pout.

CONTOUR | I love the above contour map because it works no matter what your skin tone or face structure.  If you have darker skin, you can just go a few shades darker with every color, but the idea of contrast remains the same.  You can use a contour gel like Genfiore’s botanical gel to achieve soft, refreshing skin to begin with.

BRIGHTEN | After the Mun No. 1 Aknari Brightening Serum absorbs, I apply Josh Rosebrook’s nutrient day cream under my eyes and on my nose for some natural zinc brightener.  It works wonders as a skin saver if I am going to be out and about that day.  This formula is my absolute favorite natural SPF cream – it’s slick but not too thick, and has beautiful coverage.  It leaves a sexy shimmer, too!

SHIMMER | Speaking of shimmer, I indulge my face and décolletage in the Tara Radiant Glow Oil to create a hint of color, nourish my skin and add an organic glow from the natural mica.  Using the above contour map for a flawless face, next I apply my base coverage.  I use Delizioso Skincare’s foundation in Periwinkle all over my face and eyelids, which I apply with clean fingertips.  This is slightly lighter than my skin tone so it gives me a bright base that I can contour over.

CONCEAL | Next I apply INIKA’s concealor around my eyes and under neath my eyelids down to my cheekbones for a deep brightening effect.  I also add a dab to my chin, the bridge of my nose and the middle of my forehead to create depth.  To set this base, I apply LaMav’s organic mineral foundation to create an even tone and cover any blemishes.  I dab and apply it with a big, round brush to my cheeks, nose, forehead and chin.  I adore this Duo Fiber brush from Modern Minerals and this vegan brush from Kelley Quan for the job!

FOUNDATION | Just like a sturdy house, a great look needs a great foundation.  Gressa’s foundation is a beautiful, lightweight serum, but the finish creates a magic powder effect.  It gives a gorgeous glow to the skin and is perfect for setting your base makeup as a top coat.  The ingredients are totally pure and help to nourish the skin, so you’re not clogging your pores by using any of these products!  The W3ll People Biobrightening stick is a great way to highlight around the tops of your cheekbones to keep your face light and youthful, so this is my next step.  Right above my cheekbones, I add the Tara Adorned Blushing Mousse for a little bit of color.  It can be applied sheer for a touch of demure petal color or built up for a raspberry cheek.

BRONZE | For a bronzed contour, I apply the California Bronzing Mousse from the side of my lips up my cheekbones, under where I have created the brightening and apple affect to my cheeks.  I also add a streak to both sides of my nose.  I blend all of this in with a beauty blender as well as a blending brush, like this vegan brush from Kelley Quan.

READY, SET GLOW | To set this makeup, I apply Alima Pure’s Olive Matte foundation and add a dab of the Tara Glow Creme Luminizer to the tops of my cheekbones, under my eyebrows, to my eyelids, chin, the middle of my bottom lip and the bridge of my nose for that final gorgeous glow!

EYE FOUNDATION | Eyes are one of my favorite parts of my makeup to do!  I begin with my cream foundations first, using the RMS Buriti Bronzer & the Tara Bronzing Mousse on the middle and outside creases of my eyelids.  This helps to set a base color that also keeps much longer.  I then go over this with each of my eyeshadow powders as layers – from bright on the inside to dark on the outside.

LIGHT TO DARK | I start with Modern Minerals bright white and yellow glimmer Sunrise and Leo in the crease of my eyes closest to my nose for a clear, youthful effect.  Then I apply MM’s Tiramisu eyeshadow to the middle and Forever Summer ( a bronzer that I dually use as a shadow) to my outside crease to create a darker brown color.  It’s applied delicately with this amazing eyeshadow brush from MM.  This blends the colors naturally and seamlessly.

LASHES | Then, it’s time to make a statement!  Your lashes are your best way to do this.  A great lash can bring attention to and really brighten and play up your beautiful eyes.  It’s so, so important to find a good organic or natural mascara because well, it’s going on (and sometimes into!) your eye.  Same with eyeliner!  I adore the Lily Lolo Mascara for big, bold top lashes.  I only need one or two coats for a thick, healthy, no-clump look.  I then use my INIKA mascara for a great coat on my bottom eyelashes.  Last, I line my bottom lashes with W3ll People Hypnotist eyeliner.  This professional, velvet eye pencil leaves a flawless, precise line that lasts!

BROWS | Certainly not least of all, I tackle the brows – combining colors Liz and Penelope from EcoBrow.  I apply and comb through this my favorite little eyebrow tool from Alima Pure.

CONDITION & CREATE | Last, I wanted to create a seamless beach look without my hair looking greasy or getting hard.  First, I applied Yarok’s Feed Your Ends conditioner.  My hair adores this stuff!  It leaves hair totally luscious instead of greasy, is a great detangled and nourishes the scalp and hair.  Once this has dried I apply Josh Rosebrook’s hairspray when my hair is still a bit wet but curling.  I scrunch it from the bottom and fluff the top as necessary.  Last, I add the incredible Beach Spray by Dreama.  It smells like coconut, creates a non-sticky, natural beach look and lasts all day!

Voila! I hope you’ve enjoyed this glam and glowing look!  You can achieve this in a short 15 minutes.

What is your favorite way to achieve a glamorous look?  I’d love to hear in the comments below!

Green Beauty Blast: Neal’s Yard Remedies

Image

Neal’s Yard Remedies is a brand on a mission: they “use 100% organic ingredients, either organically-grown or ideally naturally growing wild on uncontaminated or organic land – depending on the nature of the plant. Most of our extracts already meet this objective – we now just have to convince the beauty care ingredients industry to use pure organic materials to make functional ingredients.”

Their commitment to this promise can be seen far and wide on their website, in their amazing and passionate staff, and while using their incredible, top notch products!  I got to sample two amazing Neal’s Yard Remedies treats this past month, and I’m excited to stand behind them in everything safe, honest and high quality organic in my beauty products!

Neal’s Yard Remedies Rose Water

Rose Water is one of the most under appreciated skin care and aromatherapy techniques in Western Culture.  In Indian culture, rose water is used on all auspicious occasions and on altars because of its cleansing properties and soothing aroma.  Many exotic desserts like the Arabic Muhallabia, the Greek Pastries and the Indian Rasgulla are all enhanced with the delicate flavor of rose water.  It’s perfect for all of your beauty needs.

Rose Water is cooling, refreshing, hydrating, and can be used in toners, bath waters and DIY cosmetics.  I also find this Rose Water to be extremely relaxing – I often find myself dabbing it on my wrists and spritzing my face with some for no reason at all!  I mix Neal’s Yard Rose Water into my clay masks for extra skin-boosting benefits!   Neal’s Yard Remedies uses blue glass packing that helps to protect the essential oils.

For oily/acne prone skin: Mix rose water with some fuller’s earth and few drops of lemon juice for a deep-pore cleansing treatment. Leave it on till it dries and wash off with cold water.

For Dry Skin: Mix together rose water, milk and honey with some oatmeal to form a paste and use it as a nourishing face pack.

For sensitive skin: If you find your skin rough and itchy even after using the most expensive products, try moisturizing it with a mixture of rose water and glycerin in equal proportions. It soothes the skin and clears blemishes too!

For Normal Skin: Add rose water to any fruit based pack with some honey for a natural glow.

Neal’s Yard Remedies Frankincense Hydrating Cream

Frankincense is great for skin care and nearly everything related to skin; burns, rashes, cuts, scrapes, and oozing sores. It’s also fabulous for mature, prematurely aging, and environmentally challenged skin.  It improves tone and condition, heals scars, reduces muscle pain and is suitable for all types of skin.

Neal’s Yard Frankincense Hydrating Cream combines the rejuvenating properties of frankincense and myrrh to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and keep skin feeling beautifully soft and fresh.  I like to put this on before I meditate because the scent of it is so relaxing to me.  For those of you who are into delectably smelling beauty products, you’ve found your brand!  I call this cream my “baby skin” cream because just a few days of using it and your skin is baby soft!  It lasts a long, long time because it’s light and creamy and you need SO little to do the job!  It’s perfect for dry or combo skin and can be used as a base for makeup!  I’ve started bringing it on all my shoots and handing it over to the Makeup Artist’s before they apply anything on my face!

Have you used any Neal’s Yard Remedies Products?  Feel free to leave me some comments on your thoughts…. 🙂

In Love With: One Love Organics

In Love With: One Love Organics

So, last week while out with a girl friend, I got the absolute BEST question ever, which was, ” What do you use on your skin?”

To be honest, those questions make me really happy, because my relationship with my skin has it’s ups and downs.  But, when I AM having a particularly good day/week/month, and someone is kind enough to point it out, I really love to share what got me there, since I know so many of us suffer in one way or another.

And I have to admit, this time: I’m in LOVE.olo3

In finding One Love Organics, I think my hunt for the perfect Organic Skincare line is OVER.  I cannot say enough about this line – it’s totally pure, gentle and smells absolutely amazing.   I have NEVER loved a line of products this much before.  I also hear from the BlogWorld that OLO is perfect for travel-problem skin, which I definitely have (9 hours on a plane or switching from pure water to hard water will do that to ya).

olo2

I liked their mission, the fact that they focus on quality ingredients and ethics, as well as using advanced methods for creating a really fantastic product.

I have been using the Brand New Day exfoliator as a scrub as well as a Masque, and it’s cleared my skin up, unclogged pores, and left me glowing and smelling fantastic all day! I also totally adore this packaging!

Brand New Day ($39) comes in powder form, but mixing it with just a small amount of water creates a fantastic Scrub or Masque that you can leave on for 15 minutes, run a bath, relax, and wash away!

OLO was also kind enough to send me the Easy Does It Foaming Cleanser ($29).  I can’t say enough about how amazing this is for sensitive, dry or combination skin!  I have no idea how I ever lived without it!  It removes every single trace of makeup after a long day of shooting, is perfect for cleansing my face after I do Yoga or go for a run, and has held breakouts at bay.  It can also be used as a shampoo.  I’d go so far as to say that this is the best cleanser I have ever used.

If you want to test out these amazing products but are hesitant, One Love Organics has introduced their “A Little Love, The Essentials Sample Pack” for only $4 and FREE SHIPPING!

*I did recieve these products as a gift, but all opinions are 100% my own. I enjoy reviewing products and sharing it with my readers in the hopes of helping you make an informed decision about your skincare! 🙂

What a beautiful week! I got so much done – there are some days I swear I feel like I’m 4 different people!  Been working on some killer music, the garden has been trimmed, weeded and harvested (and I need a loooooong soak!) and I’m cooking like there’s no tomorrow!  My Organic Life got a lovely write up over at Lux & Eco:

owt

If you haven’t checked out Lux & Eco yet, don’t waste another moment!  They are without question the Saks 5th Ave of Eco-Fashion!  I can’t thank them enough for their nod and recognition of my projects and endeavors. 🙂

I was lucky enough to receive a beautiful little travel package from Pelle Beauty the other week, and tried it out this past week.  Two words: Life Saver!

Founder of Pelle Beauty, Marnie Cipriani, is such a sweetheart!  Her experience as a makeup artist has told her a lot about skin!  I’m a really big sucker for anything in clear packaging: it really makes me feel comfortable about my purchase and happy about my choice!  Pelle Beauty’s design is sleek, elegant and fun! 🙂  This little kit is really perfect to use in the bath, in just such an order:

 Image

The Cleansing Gel is perfect after removing your makeup with coconut oil (my DIY recipe is here!) It’s simple, it works, it smells great, and it leaves skin refreshed instead of dried out.   Really wonderful – I like my products as simple as they possibly can be and this really does the job with no residue.

Image

Alcohol Free are my two favorite words when it comes to skin care products!  This Facial Mist is super refreshing and really lovely.  The wonderful ingredients include Chamomile, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice, Camellia Sinensis (Japanese Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Saccharomyces / Sea Salt Ferment (Biomin), Allantoin & Grapeseed Extract.

Image

Stellar is absolutely now a staple part of my beauty routine!  I couldn’t be happier that I found this! Stellar absorbs into the skin immediately – I’ve yet to find anything like it! My skin has been absolutely thirsty, totally dehydrated these last few weeks and Stellar has truly reversed it all!  This product is Vegan friendly, and can be used on your face, hair, cuticles, or a makeup setter very well.

Image

You see what I did there? 🙂

This Balancing concentrate is wonderful for hydration, smells earthy and absorbs super fast! I like it just as much as the Stellar.

Image

Last, but certainly not least, this Vegan Mint Lip Balm is fantastic. 🙂  It’s my go-to lip treatment besides my home made coconut oil right now!  Makes lips soft and lovely.

A big thanks to Pelle Beauty for their commitment to organic living & for just being an all around remarkable company!
