Keep Calm & Happy Birthday!

Keep Calm & Happy Birthday!

It’s my BIRTHDAYYYYY!!

I really really REALLY enjoy my birthday.  Not only does it mark off the first of one of my favorite months of the year, it’s me and Raelie’s 4 year Anniversary of adopting each other!

Her Rescue Story is actually pretty beautiful: Raelie’s Pitbull Dog Mom was pregnant and was abandoned at a Kill Shelter.  After a few weeks, she was scheduled to be put down.

Little Shelter, a no-kill shelter on Long Island ( I recommend them whole-heartedly), was informed that this precious pregnant pitbull was going to be killed, and they swooped in and rescued her.

The next day (!!) Raelie’s mom gave birth to her and 8 other pit/lab mixes that were put up for adoption after their Mom was fostered out.  Why this is important is that if she had given birth at the Kill Shelter, herself and all of the puppies would have been immediately put down. 🙁  Had they waited another day to rescue, it would have been too late.

After going to see her and picking her out in August, I was waiting for approval for quite awhile.  Then, Little Shelter called me on August 31st and asked me if I could come pick her up the next day, which just happened to be my birthday!

Don’t mind if I do!

I can’t believe I brought this little munchkin home 4 years ago today.  She’s changed absolutely every aspect of my life in the best way possible.  I am so grateful to have her.

Raelie, you’re the best dog daughter a human could ask for.

Karma Rescue ( Support Music & Puppies )

Karma Rescue ( Support Music & Puppies )

Hey Lovelies! TGIF!

I have a wonderful announcement!

FOR THE NEXT MONTH (June 28-July 28th) HALF OF MY PROCEEDS from Visual Exchange will be donated to Karma Rescue!

Image

Karma Rescue saves at-risk dogs from the high-kill Los Angeles area shelters. Karma provides each dog a new beginning and finds them safe and suitable permanent homes through adoption, advocacy and education. They even nurse any sick dogs back to health using Puppy Vitamins and other animal friendly medicines to ensure the canines in their care can go on to enjoy bright and healthy futures.

They run COMPLETELY off charitable contributions and I owe shelters like this one everything for giving me the opportunity to adopt such an amazing and loving creature as my Raelie.

Raelie & Me: Don’t Bully My Breed

Image

Raelie Sace is my everything: she’s my dog, my daughter, my baby, my service animal, my rescue, my heart, my soul.  She’s literally saved my life over a handful of times and without learning responsibility through adopting her (from this wonderful Little Shelter) and raising her myself, I believe I’d be an entirely different person.

Image

However, when we go for walks, I become aware.  Not at her or her behavior, but at people’s stares, comments and reactions.  You see, Raelie is a Pitbull mix (half Pit, half Lab, or a Pitador if you will!)  And I’ve seen people cross the street when we’re halfway down the block.  I’ve seen women tug on the arms of their children when we are 15 feet away.  I’ve seen other dog owners snatch up their dogs and straight up rudely leave a dog park when I brought her in.  I’ve had people ask me, ” Don’t you know that they’re vicious?”  or ” Don’t you know that they bite?” like I don’t sleep next to my 65 pound dog every night in spooning position since she was 7 weeks old.

Image

Image

She has never so much as growled at another human being, never mind bit or snapped at one, and has only reacted badly to other dogs that were already being aggressive.   She is the sweetest, cuddliest, most loyal and amazing dog that I could ask for.

Image

And when I tried to fly her out here to California from New York, I had to call 6 or 7 airlines just to be told she was on the “Breed Restrictions List” and they wouldn’t fly her!!  I tried to explain to them that she was a mutt, she has no history of violent behavior, I was registering her as my service dog, and that I’d be accompanying her.  No go on ANY of them.  (I finally got Delta to do it! So thank you, Delta!)

Image

And if I lived in Miami Dade, Cincinatti or Ontario, the government could have come snatched her right from my backyard and euthanized her at any time without my consent.  If she was born in a place other than New York, like Texas, Florida, Alabama, or Canada the chances of her being euthanized as a puppy are 10 times more likely, if not 100% guaranteed. Just because she’s part Pit.

Image

  •  According to the American Temperament Test Society, temperament evaluations of American Pit Bull Terriers shows that this breed has a very high passing rate of 82.6%.
  • The average passing rate for the other 121 breeds of dogs in the tests: 77%.

 Image

Look at the facts below.  Pit Bulls have gone through so much, yet they’re still less likely to attack you then a Rottweiler, German Shepherd, or a Chow.  Pit Bulls are facing bans across the United States and across the world, yet society is to blame, because they’re the ones tearing the breed apart.   For many people, Pit Bulls are nothing more then an asset, for making money.  These people mass produce Pit Bulls, force them to fight for their lives, and when they lose their fight, they’re killed.  Many situations occur where the Pit Bull will be hung, electrocuted, shot.

Image

What alarms me is our hunger for drama and tragedy and not being accountable for our own actions and throwing the blame off on someone or something that can’t offer an intelligent defense. As a result of this, there are many individuals groups and governments as well with genocidal goals in mind for our dogs.

Image

The last thing any breed of dog needs are bands of BSPC’s (Breed Specific Pitty Committees). What they need are legions of informed individuals willing to step up on their behalf and offer intelligent defense.

 Image

Well, here I am.  I encourage you to love, adopt, say hello to your friendly neighborhood Pitbull or Pit-Mix dog!  Overall, they’re an entirely loving, loyal, cuddly, goofy breed in need of lots of love and understanding!
